Why Political Struggles Overshadow the True Force – the Ukrainian Nation
When discussing the "big deal" between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the demands of Zelensky, or the accusations against him, one key player is often left in the shadows—the Ukrainian nation.
When discussing the "big deal" between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the demands of Zelensky, or the accusations against him, one key player is often left in the shadows—the Ukrainian nation. It was not politicians but the people of Ukraine who, in the first days of the full-scale invasion, took to the streets, armed with whatever they could find, and stopped the Russian advance. Without sufficient resources and without relying on external statements, ordinary citizens—reservists, volunteers, territorial defense fighters, and simply determined individuals—proved that Russia could not swiftly and easily conquer Ukraine.
Yet today, Ukraine’s fate is being decided through backroom negotiations and political infighting. Trump accuses Zelensky and Poroshenko of "betrayal," Putin tries to achieve his goals through secret agreements, Zelensky fiercely holds on to presidential powers amid war, while Europe and China nervously watch whether Washington and Moscow will strike a "grand bargain" without their involvement. In all this, neither Trump, nor Putin, nor Zelensky, nor many Western politicians truly prioritize the Ukrainian nation, which is paying the highest price—with lives and destroyed cities.
1. Ukrainians Stopped the Invasion in the First Days
Without clear orders from above: While the government was still adjusting, ordinary Ukrainians began building roadblocks and blocking Russian advances with makeshift means. This played a crucial role in slowing down the invasion.
Unity of the army and the people: The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) relied heavily on the enthusiasm and support of civilians, which enabled rapid logistical coordination, medical assistance, and communication networks. This "people’s factor" worked more effectively than any pre-established defense system.
2. Why Is Ukraine’s Fate Being Decided "Behind Its Back"?
Trump vs. Zelensky: Personal grudges and accusations. U.S. aid was formally provided to Ukraine, yet political rhetoric makes it seem like the money was personally "given to Zelensky." In reality, this aid went to the front lines, saving the lives of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians.
Putin vs. Ukraine: The Kremlin benefits from reducing the war to a deal with Trump or any other influential figure who could pressure Kyiv into concessions. Meanwhile, the opinion of Ukrainian citizens fighting for their country is ignored.
Europe and China: Are primarily concerned with their own interests, fearing that the U.S. and Russia might negotiate behind their backs. However, in this global power play, Ukraine’s voice is often suppressed or sidelined.
3. Political Infighting Should Not Determine the Fate of the Nation
War and the people’s future are not bargaining chips. While Trump demands elections 🗳️, Zelensky resists transferring power 🏛️, and Putin attempts to impose his version of "peace" ☠️, millions of Ukrainians continue to fight and sustain their country.
The U.S. supported Ukrainians, not just the government. Many in Washington emphasized that their support was for the people of Ukraine, who are fighting for freedom and democracy. Political disputes over Zelensky, Poroshenko, or any other figure are secondary. The Ukrainian nation has proven its ability to defend itself, and this remains the strongest argument for continued support.
The people’s voice must be heard. The fact that democratic processes can be compromised during wartime does not mean that Ukraine’s future should be dictated by foreign negotiations. These matters should be decided inside Ukraine, based on the will of the people, not dictated by external actors.
4. Never Forget: Ukrainians Are the Ones Who Stopped Russia’s Expansion
Had there been no fierce resistance, Russia could have seized much larger territories, directly threatening NATO countries. In that case, Trump, Europe, and the rest of the world would be facing an even greater disaster.
The heroism of a nation cannot be reduced to statistics on aid and negotiations. Thousands of volunteers, doctors, teachers, and workers are keeping Ukraine afloat, despite bombings and economic turmoil.
5. Conclusion: Politics Must Not Overshadow the Role of the Ukrainian People
While Trump demands elections under the threat of cutting military and financial aid, and Putin seeks to exploit divisions in Kyiv, the Ukrainian nation continues to fight for its independence. It was the will of ordinary people that stopped Russia’s blitzkrieg in the early days of the war. It is the people who bear the greatest burden, sustaining both the economy and the army.
And if today, the future of millions of Ukrainians is at stake because of political infighting between Trump, Zelensky, Putin, and others, this is not only unjust—it directly contradicts the principles of freedom for which Ukraine is fighting. The true heroes of this war are the Ukrainian people, who continue their struggle on the front lines and in the rear, while politicians squabble over power and influence.
Real support for Ukraine—from the U.S., Europe, or the world—should be directed primarily at the people, who, despite overwhelming odds, demonstrated unmatched courage and resilience in resisting an enemy that far outmatched them. And if someone wants to "make a deal" without considering this true force, they are making a grave mistake—underestimating the power and will of the Ukrainian nation. 💙💛
